Heritage, artistry, enduring design
Over three decades ago, South African artist and designer Carrol Boyes followed her passion for art and sculpture, transforming it into a celebrated design brand known for exceptional craftsmanship and distinctive style.
Born in Cape Town in 1954 and raised on a farm in Limpopo, Carrol graduated with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Pretoria before spending 15 years teaching English and art. In 1989, at age 35, she launched her own business from her Cape Town home, creating jewellery before finding her signature in functional home décor and kitchenware.
Working with materials including brass, pewter, copper and silver, Carrol’s unique designs quickly gained attention at Cape Town’s Greenmarket Square. Her philosophy was to create high-quality, collectible pieces that could be enjoyed every day and passed down through generations.
As demand grew, a manufacturing facility was established in Limpopo, creating hundreds of local jobs. The brand soon expanded internationally, receiving its first overseas order and opening its first retail store at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront in 2003.
Today, Carrol Boyes offers over 1,000 products and is represented in more than 27 countries. The brand continues to celebrate South African creativity, combining artistic design, functionality and quality while preserving Carrol’s enduring legacy.
